Securing a site without disrupting daily operations

Building security must fit the activity of the site. Equipment is one part of the answer, alongside procedures and responsibilities.

Access-control device and phone

Understand movement before selecting equipment

Review how employees, visitors, contractors and deliveries move through the site. Identify sensitive times and technical entrances. A well-controlled main entrance does not explain how all other access points operate. Measures should fit the needs of the people using the location.

Connect detection to handling alerts

A denied entry, open door or alarm needs a defined next step. Who receives the information, who can check it and who decides on action? Responsibilities and communication methods should be considered with technical systems, including both normal and degraded operating conditions.

Check everyday use

Review instructions with the people involved and identify barriers that encourage workarounds. Measures that are understood, usable and followed are easier to maintain. For a physical security project, scope, availability and delivery arrangements must be confirmed with your contact.
